Everybody Wants Some!!
Fratboys will be fratboys - courtesy of Richard Linklater.
Richard Linklater follows the success of Boyhood with another perfectly crafted film – the kind of movie he used to make when he first started his illustrious career with Slacker (1991) and Dazed and Confused (1993). The place here is Texas and the time 1980, three days before the start of term. College freshman Jake (Blake Jenner) moves into a fraternity with his new baseball team members. New friendships, the inevitable rivalries and the continuous partying begins...
The joy of watching Linklater’s engaging sports comedy is his careful casting and highly charged, energetic direction. His camera never stops moving and his complex set-ups enable us to get to know all the characters (apart from the women) in great detail. His script is a little gem and he has invested ample time in creating fully-fleshed and well-drawn male characters, even if all the jocks are very attractive, squeaky clean and perfectly groomed. With the exception of Ryan Guzman, most of the talented cast are relative newcomers and are destined for bright futures, particularly his young lead Blake Jenner (who bears an uncanny resemblance to Linklater).
