SAEED JAFFREY

(8 January 1929 - 15 November 2015)

Indian actor first in theatre and radio during the 1950s, then came to the UK, studied at RADA, toured Shakespeare in the US and worked at the Actors’ Studio in New York. Appeared in The Jewel in the Crown and many other TV productions. Films include Merchant-Ivory’s The Guru, and he worked for directors Lean, Attenborough and Satyajit Ray in A Passage to India, Gandhi and The Chess Players etc plus many Bollywood films. Married the cook and actress Madhur Jaffrey.
